Amos 1

Study

The words of Amos, who was among the sheep-farmers of Tekoah, which he beheld concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two··years before the earthquake.

And he said, Jehovah will roar from Zion, and from Jerusalem He will give forth His voice; and the sheep··folds of the shepherds shall mourn, and the head of Carmel shall··dry··up.

Thus says Jehovah: For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn··back her punishment, for they have threshed Gilead with pointed instruments of iron;

but I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, which shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad.

And I will break the bar of Damascus, and cut··off those who dwell there from the vale of Aven, and him who upholds the scepter from the house of Eden; and the people of Syria shall go··into··exile to Kir, says Jehovah.

Thus says Jehovah: For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn··back her punishment, on··account··of their exiling the whole exile, to close· them ·in for Edom.

But I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour her palaces,

and I will cut··off from Ashdod him who dwells there, and from Ashkelon him who holds the scepter, and I will turn··back My hand against Ekron; and what··is··left of the Philistines shall perish, says the Lord Jehovih*.

Thus says Jehovah: For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four, I will not turn··back her punishment, on··account··of their shutting··in the whole band of exiles for Edom, and they remembered not the covenant of brothers.

But I will send a fire on the wall of Tyre, which shall devour her palaces.

Thus says Jehovah: For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn··back his punishment, for he pursued his brother with the sword, and destroyed his compassions, and his anger tore for ever, and he kept his wrath perpetually.

but I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.

Thus says Jehovah: For three transgressions of the sons of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn··back their punishment, for they have ripped··open the pregnant women of Gilead, so··that they might enlarge their border.

but I will kindle a fire on the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour her palaces, with shouting in the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the storm;

and their king shall go into exile, he and his princes together, says Jehovah.
