The full title of the fifth book that we will consider is The Delights of Wisdom Concerning Conjugial Love after which follows the Pleasures of Insanity Concerning Scortatory Love. It was first published in 1768. The word "conjugial" exists in English only from translations of Swedenborg's Latin. Some scholars in the New Church think that it would be better to use "married" love than "conjugial" love. Another way of thinking of "conjugial" love is as a term that refers to a true love of marriage. This love can exist with people who are not married or whose marriages are far from ideal.
