1
Thus has the Lord Jehovih* showed me; and behold a basket◦ of summer··fruit.
2
And He said, Amos, what seest thou◦? And I said, A basket◦ of summer··fruit. And Jehovah said to▵ me, The end has come to▵ My people Israel; I will not again cross··over to them any··more.
3
And the songs of the temple shall howl in that◦ day, says◦ the Lord Jehovih; there shall be many corpses, they shall cast them in every place. Keep··silent!
4
Hear this, O ye who gulp··down the needy, even to make the meek of the land to cease,
5
saying, When will the new··moon be past, that we may ration rations, and the Sabbath, that we may open the grain◦ stores, to make the ephah small, and to make the shekel great, and to subvert the balances by deceit,
6
that we may buy with silver the poor, and the needy with a pair··of··shoes; and ration what is fallen of the grain◦?
7
Jehovah has promised by the excellency of Jacob, If I should forget perpetually all of their deeds,
8
shall not the land tremble on··account··of this, and everyone who dwells in her mourn? And it shall all come··up as a river◦; and it shall be driven··out, and it shall be drowned as the river◦ of Egypt.
9
And it shall be in that◦ day, says◦ the Lord Jehovih, that I will cause the sun to come··in at noon, and I will darken the earth in the day of light:
10
and I will turn your festivals into◦ mourning, and all your songs into◦ lamentation; and I will bring··up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make▫ it as mourning for an only◦ child, and its last as a bitter day.
11
Behold, the days come, says◦ the Lord Jehovih, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of◦ bread, nor a thirst for water, but◦ of◦ hearing the words of Jehovah;
12
and they shall go··to··and··fro from sea even··to sea, and from the north and even··to the sunrise; they shall run··around to seek the word of Jehovah, and shall not find it.
13
In that◦ day shall the beautiful virgins and young··men be··fatigued with thirst.
14
They that swear◦ by the guilt of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, is alive; and, The way of Beer-sheba is alive; and they shall fall, and not rise··up any··more.
