Human Faculties or Capabilities

Faculties, or capabilities, are potential characteristics that people are endowed with by the Lord. Swedenborg uses the term when he speaks of internal qualities like rationality, freedom, becoming wise, becoming spiritual , or some quality that advances a person toward salvation.

Human beings all have these faculties, but we may or may not develop them; indeed we can close them off if we try. Even in the best case, these good faculties will only partially be developed during our lives on earth, but after death, they can continue to grow forever as we use them in heaven.
