Here we can see that the good people among the Gentiles (represented by the wedding party in Cana) did not have a sufficient understanding of spiritual things (represented by the wine). The fact that this was reported to Jesus (who represents the Lord's divine desire to be good to us) by his mother (representing the Lord's church in this world) shows that people were eager for more knowledge.
