Deuteronomy 3

Lernen

Then we turned and went up by the road to Bashan; and Og the king of Bashan and all his people came out against us to the battle at Edrei.

And Yehowah said to me, Do not fear him, for I have delivered him and all his people and his land into your hands; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon the king of the Amorites who lived in Heshbon.

And Yehowah our God also delivered into our hands Og the king of Bashan and all his people; and we defeated him until not one survivor was left to him.

And we took all his cities at that time; there was not a city which we did not take from them-sixty cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

All these were cities fortified with high walls, gates, and bars, as well as the very many open cities.

And we utterly destroyed them, as we did with Sihon the king of Heshbon, destroying every city: men, women, and children.

But we took all the cattle and the spoil of the cities as booty for ourselves.

So at that time we took the land out of the hands of the two kings of the Amorites who were across the Jordan, from the river Arnon to Mount Hermon

(the Sidonians call Hermon Sirion, and the Amorites call it Senir),

all the cities of the plain and all Gilead and all Bashan, as far as Salekah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.

(For only Og the king of Bashan remained of the remnant of the Rephaim; see, his bedstead was an iron bedstead; is it not in Rabbah of the sons of Ammon? It was nine cubits long and four cubits broad, in ordinary cubits.)*

And we took possession of this land at that time: I gave to the Reubenites and Gadites the land from Aroer which is by the river Arnon, and half the hill-country of Gilead with its cities;

and the rest of Gilead and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh, all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of Rephaim;

Jair the son of Manasseh took all the region of Argob as far as the territory of the Geshurites and Maakathites, and called them after his own name, Bashan-havvoth-jair, as it is to this day;

and to Makhir I gave Gilead;

and to the Reubenites and Gadites I gave from Gilead to the river Arnon, the middle of the valley being the boundary, as far as the river Jabbok, the boundary of the sons of Ammon;

also the Arabah, with the Jordan as the boundary, from Kinnereth as far as the sea of the Arabah, the Salt sea, under the slopes of Pisgah on the east.

And I commanded you at that time, and said, Yehowah your God has given you this land for a possession; you shall pass over armed in front of your brothers the sons of Israel, all valiant men.

But your wives and children and cattle (I know that you have many cattle) shall remain in your cities which I have given you,

until Yehowah gives rest to your brothers as he has given to you, and they also possess the land which Yehowah your God is giving them across the Jordan; then every one of you shall return to his possession which I have given you.

And I commanded Joshua at that time, and said, Your eyes have seen all that Yehowah your God has done to these two kings; so will Yehowah do to all the kingdoms into which you will come.

You shall not fear them, for it is Yehowah your God who fights for you.

And I implored Yehowah at that time, and said,

O Lord Yehowih, thou hast begun to show thy servant thy greatness and thy strong hand; for what god is there in heaven or on earth which can do works and mighty acts like thine?

Let me go over, I pray thee, and see the good land which is across the Jordan, that fine hill-country and Lebanon.

But Yehowah was enraged with me on your account, and would not listen to me; and Yehowah said to me, Enough; speak no more to me of this matter.

Climb to the top of Pisgah, and lift up your eyes to the west, the north, the south, and the east, and see it with your eyes; for you shall not cross this Jordan.

And charge Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him; for he shall cross over before this people, and shall enable them to inherit the land which you will see.

And we remained in the valley opposite Beth-peor.
