3 Thou knowest that David my father could not build a house unto the name of Jehovah his God, because of the wars which were about him on every side, until Jehovah put them under the soles of his feet.

Verse 3. That it is not possible for man to be fully established in good, so as to have the quality of good from the Lord, during the spiritual state, on account of spiritual conflicts or temptations continually prevailing, for evils must thus be entirely subdued.
