1. [NCBSP Editor's note: The original Latin manuscript to this work is lost. Two very different copies of it exist. One was done by a man named Johansen under the direction of Augustus Nordenskjold. The other was done by an unknown copyist, and was owned by Major Leonard Gyllenhaal who lived near Skara. The text of these two manuscripts is quite different. Both manuscripts were used by Whitehead in making his English translation, and by Mongredien and Coulson in making theirs. Whitehead uses "Nordenskjold" and "Skara" to distinguish them in his notes. Mongredien and Coulson used "N." and "Sk.". We have replaced these abbreviations, typically referring to them as "the Skara manuscript" and "the Nordenskjold manuscript".
