13 And his servants drew near, and spoke to him and said, My father, [if] the prophet had bidden thee [do some] great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he says to thee, Wash and be clean?

Verse 13. Nevertheless the truths of the Word which, hitherto, he has used for selfish purposes, strongly influence him by an appeal to the good of conscience, and also by an appeal to natural pride in acting nobly; but still more by an appeal to simple good, which dictates that, regeneration, or purification from evil, internally, is of the first importance.
