40 But if they confess their iniquity and their fathers' iniquity, with their trespass which they committed against me, and confess also that they have walked contrary to me,

Verse 40. But the good, in this corrupted state of the Spiritual Church, will acknowledge that they are in falsities, from the falsities of those in evil, and also through ignorance of truth owing to such falsities, which are opposed to Divine Truth; and also that, because of their actual evils, they have lived contrary to the truth.
